Glory Road- Bigotry

“Glory Road” told the story of a basketball coach in Texas who made the controversial step of recruiting black players. One of the main themes in the movie was the negative effect of racial prejudice. What scenes in the movie stood out to you about racism or overcoming it? Who do we find it easy to look down on based on based on our preconceived notion of what “people like them” are like? How can we overcome our own prejudices?

Well I've got a lot on my mind about this movie, but I'll try to keep most of it to myself to allow y'all some room to talk. Racism has always been a weird thing to me since I grew up in the Philippines in a missionary community devoted to helping people from different backgrounds. I am probably naive to think this sort of thing doesn't go on anymore. I guess what stood out to me was how so much of the racism in the movie came from how people saw the world not out of a desire to be mean. Characters were stuck seeing the world a certain way and overlooked the obvious. We all laughed when the one character marveled at black people being the future of basketball, he just couldn't see what was right in front of him. Well I think I will take a really good look at my life right now and do my best to see the obvious things that I am so quickly overlooking.
